About Me
Luka Ilić
The Doctor is in the house.
I am a an atmospheric scientist, currently a Juan de la Cierva Post Doctoral Fellow at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. I am working on the numerical modeling of dust mineral composition effects on dust optical properties and dust direct radiative effect using the MONARCH model.
I have coordinated the data integration work in the BSC contribution to the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) operational aerosol model validation. I have performed validation of CAMS model for over 2 years promoting the extension of the validation to utilization of vertical lidar profiles. I provided an extensive framework on a DANA case to extend the model validation from collocated observations and model outputs to comprehensive analysis taking the weather model and synoptic situation into account.
My PhD project at the Institute of Physics at the University of Belgrade was to model the influence of mineral dust on ice initiation in Dust Regional Atmospheric Model (DREAM). This was the first implementation of a mineralogy-sensitive ice nucleation parameterization in a numerical weather prediction model. The model was evaluated using POLIHPON algorithm with ground-based EARLINET and PollyXT lidar measurements. I was also working at the Belgrade LIDAR station performing measurements and quality assurance on the way for the station to join EARLINET.
Before starting my PhD, I have been working in the private sector. The operational numerical weather prediction workflow was based on GFS, Eta and WRF-NMM models. I have designed and implemented NWP systems on Beowulf Clusters and large distributed HPC infrastructures.
My work as a scientist.
I love presenting my research inside and outside academia. I continue to enjoy communicating my enthusiasm of my field to people of all ages to this day, which inspired this website.
